Queensland Resources Council
Social and Community Policy

QRC is committed to working with members and governments to establish and maintain the liveability of the communities in which member companies operate.

The ‘livability’ of resource communities is a key priority area for industry. Social services and infrastructure such as health, education, emergency services, and housing are crucial to enhancing the sector’s capacity to attract and retain a skilled resources sector workforce, as well as maintaining the sector’s social licence to operate.

QRC works closely with government and industry to implement strategies and partnerships which will secure key resources, including skills, economic and community infrastructure, to enhance the livability of resource communities throughout Queensland.

With our member companies, QRC has identified a number of key livability issues facing resource communities, and is involved in a range of projects and processes to address these concerns, including:

formation and implementation of the Sustainable Resource Communities Partnership Agreement with the Queensland Government and Local Government Association of Queensland, to work in partnership and collaboration to address key livability issues facing resource communities
Queensland Government review of the socio-economic component of environmental impact statement
regional planning, including involvement in the drafting of new statutory regional plans, and implementation of existing regional plans
housing and accommodation issues, including the Queensland Government review of the Temporary Accommodation Code, as well as tenancy regulations
health services, including lobbying for improved services and facilities, as well as necessary support frameworks such as the patient travel subsidy scheme
education and childcare, including addressing key shortages.
