Queensland is a highly prospective exploration province, endowed with abundant and diverse reserves of minerals, petroleum and gas.
Queensland’s North West Minerals Province is recognised as one of the world's most highly mineralised areas, with the Bowen and Surat Basins also being highly productive energy regions. Excellent opportunities exist in terms of oil, gas and renewable resources.
Local exploration projects are supported by the strong fundamentals. In particular, ready access to detailed pre-competitive geosciences and a good availability of services. Much of Queensland is well-serviced by infrastructure, world-class recognised tenure legislation, and a strong social license to operate from local communities.
The paradox is that while Queensland boasts a rich tradition of exploration success, much of the state remains unexplored with the latest exploration technologies.
Recognising the opportunity in this challenge, the Queensland Government has committed to establishing Queensland as the greenfield exploration capital of Australia by 2020.
QRC applauds this goal and is working with the state government to achieve this vision. QRC is looking for a whole-of-government commitment in legislation, policy and programs to position Queensland as a preferred region for exploration globally.
