The Queensland Resources Council (QRC) has welcomed a donation by Anglo American of $100,000 to Queenslanders affected by the bushfires.

QRC Chief Executive Ian Macfarlane said the donation, to not-for-profit GIVIT, would help ease the pain of people who have lost homes and belongings as a result of the fires.

“Yet again we see the resources sector digging deep when regional Queensland is in need and I sincerely thank Anglo American for this generous donation,” Mr Macfarlane said.

“Queenslanders are famous for helping each other out in a time of need and Anglo American has a large footprint in Queensland with coal mines near Middlemount, Moranbah and Moura.

“Everyone feels the economic pain when bushfires rip through communities and I strongly encourage everyone if they can to dig deep and donate what they can.”

GIVIT will be able to use the funds immediately with 100 percent of donations used to support Queenslanders in fire-affected areas and has a policy of buying locally where possible.
