Queensland Mining Industry Health and Safety Conference

The annual Queensland Mining Industry Health and Safety Conference is hosted jointly by the Queensland Government, the QRC, and mining unions (CFMEU and AWU).

The four-day conference continues to be one of the largest health and safety conferences in the southern hemisphere.

It is designed to provide Queensland resources companies with valuable information on critical issues that may impact on the sector.

The gathering also celebrates and promotes the ingenuity of home-grown safety through the Safety Innovation Health Awards.

The conference has its own website that contains conference papers dating back to 1993 as well as the latest information on the current year’s conference and awards.

Miners Memorial Day

Every year a service is held in memory of the tragedy of lives lost in Queensland’s resources sector and as a solemn reminder of the reasons for committing to leading health and safety practices for the thousands of men and women who work in the sector.

Miners Memorial Day is held on the 19 September, the anniversary of the state’s worst mining disaster when 75 miners lost their lives in a gas explosion in a coal mine in 1921 at Mount Mulligan in North Queensland.

On this day the Queensland Government, resources companies and unions come together to honour the memory of those who have lost their lives.
