James Palmer

James Palmer is Asset President – BHP Mitsubishi Alliance.

James has more than 20 years’ experience in various strategic, management, business development, operational and technical roles, gained at Mount Isa Mines, WMC and BHP in Australia and the UK.

James was previously Asset President, BHP Mitsui Coal and New South Wales Energy Coal. Prior to this role James was Chief of Staff, Office of the CEO and GMC Secretary; General Manager – Strategy & Performance (Non-Ferrous); and General Manager for the Nickel West Kalgoorlie Smelter & Kambalda Concentrator; following many management, business development, operational and technical roles, having joined BHP as a Process Engineer in 2000 from Mt Isa Mines (MIM, previously Xstrata, now Glencore).

James holds a Chemical Engineering degree (Hons) from the University of Queensland, Australia, and is an accredited 6 sigma Black Belt (Australian Institute of Management).

James is a passionate leader with demonstrated delivery of results, aligned with strategic vision, commercial goals, and strong technical process.

James is an advocate of Inclusion & Diversity, representing the Coal business on the BHP Global Inclusion & Diversity Council.
