Chief Executive Officer | Australia Pacific LNG Pty Ltd

Nick McKenna is Chief Executive Officer of Australia Pacific LNG, a joint venture between Origin Energy, ConocoPhillips and Sinopec based in Brisbane.

Australia Pacific LNG (APLNG) has developed an integrated, two train, coal seam gas to LNG project in Queensland. APLNG is the largest producer of natural gas in eastern Australia, continuing to supply around 30 per cent of the total east coast demand. We are also a major exporter of LNG to Asia, and shipped our 500th LNG cargo in June 2020.

Nick commenced his role with APLNG in September 2020 and is on secondment from ConocoPhillips where he was most recently President of the Australia business unit.

Since joining ConocoPhillips in 2007, Nick has worked in a number of roles in Australia and internationally. In 2010 he was seconded to Australia Pacific LNG as the General Manager Projects. In 2013 Nick relocated to Calgary, spending two years as Vice President, Oil Sands Development before his appointment to Vice President, Oil Sands Development and Subsurface in 2015. In 2017 Nick transitioned to the Houston based role of Asset Manager, Central Rockies and Anadarko.

Prior to ConocoPhillips, Nick held a number of supervisory and engineering roles with both McKinsey & Company and Technip in Houston, Halliburton Subsea in Singapore, and Brown & Root Energy Services in Australia.

Nick’s twenty-four years of extensive industry experience is underpinned by a Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Western Australia and two postgraduate degrees; a Master of Science in system design and management and a Doctorate in engineering systems – both from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Nick has served on the Boards of the Petroleum Technology Alliance Canada and Canada’s Oil Sands Innovation Alliance. Nick has also served on the Board of APPEA.

Nick brings unwavering commitment to supporting the future of the sector, with particular passion for advocating for strong and consistent regulatory frameworks, improving public sentiment, and continuing collaborative advocacy between the industry and its key stakeholders.

Originally from Perth, Nick is married and is a keen follower of the West Coast Eagles, and the New Orleans Saints.
