The Queensland Resources Council (QRC) has urged the Parliamentary Committee examining the Mineral Resources and Other Legislation Amendment (MROLA) Bill to support the legislation and consider a number of practical improvements recommended by industry.

QRC Chief Executive Officer Janette Hewson said the Bill was an important step towards delivering a more efficient, predictable and transparent approvals process while maintaining Queensland’s strong environmental standards.

“The resources sector supports robust environmental assessment and genuine community participation, but the current system is too often delayed by duplication and processes that don’t improve outcomes,” Ms Hewson said.

“The MROLA Bill will help streamline project approvals, reduce unnecessary delays and ensure objection processes remain focused on those directly affected by a project.”

QRC has recommended several targeted amendments to strengthen the Bill, including refining objection standing provisions, improving the management of objections and ensuring broader policy debates are not repeatedly re-litigated through individual project applications.

“Queensland is competing globally for investment. We need an approvals system that is efficient, transparent and gives investors confidence while maintaining strong protections for communities and the environment,” Ms Hewson said.

“We encourage the Committee to support the Bill and consider QRC’s recommendations to ensure Queensland remains an attractive destination for investment, jobs and regional growth.”
