The Women in Resources: Empowering Development (WIRED) Program is led by the QRC with funding from the Queensland Government to support the career progression of women in operator and technician roles.
Through leadership development, coaching and peer learning, WIRED provides practical tools, guidance and connections to help participants navigate their careers and reach their goals.
As a pilot program, WIRED is shaping a scalable, industry-wide approach to strengthening female operators and technicians’ participation in rewarding resources sector careers.

The WIRED Program is designed for women currently working in operator and technician roles within Queensland’s resources sector who are looking to build their confidence, expand their professional networks and support their future career development.
For the purposes of the WIRED Program, operators and technicians are employees whose primary role involves operating, maintaining, monitoring or troubleshooting equipment, machinery or production systems within the resources sector.
Examples include Mobile Plant Operators, Process Plant Operators, Drill and Blast Operators and Gas Field Operators. Operator roles are responsible for the safe and efficient operation of heavy machinery, equipment and production systems while maintaining workplace safety and environmental compliance.
Examples include Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Process and Gas Field Technicians. Technician roles are responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing and optimising equipment and systems that support safe and efficient operations.

No. WIRED is designed for women who are looking to build confidence, capability and career readiness. Previous leadership experience is not required.
Yes. Applications must be endorsed by your supervisor or a more senior leader, as supervisor engagement forms an important part of the WIRED Program.
No. WIRED is designed to support career development at all stages. Whether your goal is to strengthen your confidence, build professional networks, improve communication skills or prepare for future opportunities, the program provides practical tools that can be applied in your current role and throughout your career.
The program launches on 11 August 2026.
The program is delivered across two training blocks: 15 September 2026 to 19 November 2026 and 9 February 2027 to 22 April 2027.
Sessions run for approximately three hours, with the exception of the program launch on 11 August, which commences at 10.30am and concludes at 3.00pm.
Participants are expected to commit to the full program to maximise the benefits of the learning, coaching and peer connections. Attendance at the face-to-face launch is preferred where possible, with an online alternative available for the training component if required.
No. Accommodation and travel costs are not funded through the WIRED Program.
No. WIRED is a non-accredited professional development program.
