Who is eligible to apply?

The WIRED Program is designed for women currently working in operator and technician roles within Queensland’s resources sector who are looking to build their confidence, expand their professional networks and support their future career development.

How do I know if I’m an operator or technician?

For the purposes of the WIRED Program, operators and technicians are employees whose primary role involves operating, maintaining, monitoring or troubleshooting equipment, machinery or production systems within the resources sector.

What are examples of operator roles?

Examples include Mobile Plant Operators, Process Plant Operators, Drill and Blast Operators and Gas Field Operators. Operator roles are responsible for the safe and efficient operation of heavy machinery, equipment and production systems while maintaining workplace safety and environmental compliance.

What are examples of technician roles?

Examples include Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Process and Gas Field Technicians. Technician roles are responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing and optimising equipment and systems that support safe and efficient operations.

I’m not sure if my role fits the eligibility criteria. Can I still apply?

If your role involves operating, maintaining or supporting operational equipment or production systems within the resources sector and you’re unsure whether it meets the eligibility criteria, we encourage you to apply or contact the QRC team to discuss your circumstances.

Do I need leadership experience to apply?

No. WIRED is designed for women who are looking to build confidence, capability and career readiness. Previous leadership experience is not required.

Do I need my manager’s approval?

Yes. Applications must be endorsed by your supervisor or a more senior leader, as supervisor engagement forms an important part of the WIRED Program.

Is the program only for people who want to become leaders?

No. WIRED is designed to support career development at all stages. Whether your goal is to strengthen your confidence, build professional networks, improve communication skills or prepare for future opportunities, the program provides practical tools that can be applied in your current role and throughout your career.
