Fostering Indigenous collaboration: Vital for resources exploration and development in Queensland.

The Queensland resources sector recognises the connection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to land and water. Through respectful engagement, we build mutually beneficial relationships between resources companies and Indigenous communities. 

With a strong history of collaboration, the Queensland resources sector works closely with Indigenous parties to protect cultural heritage for all Australians and future generations. 

QRC is dedicated to partnering with Indigenous communities and governments for sustainable economic development, creating opportunities for employment and business development, contributing to the strength of Indigenous communities in Queensland.

We do this through:

  • Sharing best practice across our members through the QRC Indigenous Affairs Committee
  • QRC Indigenous Awards recognising Indigenous participation in Queensland’s resources sector
  • QRC Indigenous Forums sharing insights and enhancing approaches in procurement, employment, training, cultural heritage, and capability
  • Annual QRC Indigenous Participation Survey offering a snapshot of Indigenous employment and procurement across Queensland’s resources sector
  • Developing tools for members to increase indigenous employment and procurement.

Indigenous Participation

Each year, QRC collects voluntary data from its members to provide insights into Indigenous participation in the sector. The survey covers key indicators, such as:

  • Number of Indigenous persons employed by QRC member companies and wages paid to Indigenous employees.
  • Characteristics of the Indigenous workforce of QRC member companies, including turnover, internal progression, training, age, gender, and occupational breakdown
  • Number of Indigenous businesses participating in QRC member company supply chains and total spend on Indigenous businesses.
  • The data highlights a consistent rise in Indigenous employment by QRC members, with a notable increase in female and younger employees compared to the non-Indigenous workforce.
