Queensland Resources Council (QRC) says a long-term domestic gas policy is needed from the National Gas Market Review to encourage investment and incentivise explorers to develop more natural gas reserves sooner.
In its submission to the Australian Government, the QRC says Queensland’s gas sector already plays a critical role in Australia’s energy security and enabling a steady transition to a low emissions future.
As the peak body for Queensland’s resources sector, QRC says recommendations in the submission will encourage further investment and new development in the state’s gas industry which contributed $17 billion to the economy in 2024.
Substantial capital investment in Queensland’s LNG industry has underwritten long term export supply contracts. It is critical that these contracts are not impacted by regulatory changes.
QRC welcomed recent moves by the Queensland Government to open up more land for gas exploration and to conduct a review into the land release process.
QRC calls for more efficient streamlined approval processes that deliver energy security and investment opportunities.
