QRC welcomes common-sense Workcover reforms
The Queensland Resources Council (QRC) has welcomed the Queensland Government’s reforms to Workcover, describing the changes as an important step towards maintaining a fair, sustainable and evidence-based scheme for workers and employers.
QRC Chief Executive Officer Janette Hewson said the resources sector supports reforms that help preserve the long-term sustainability of Queensland’s workers’ compensation system while providing greater certainty for workers and businesses.
“Workers injured at work should receive appropriate support to recover and return to work, but the scheme also needs a clear and evidence-based connection between work and compensable injury,” Ms Hewson said.
“These reforms support a fair and balanced system that people can have confidence in, while helping ensure support remains available for workers when they need it.”
Ms Hewson said QRC members had advocated for earlier intervention, more consistent decision-making and fewer delays in the claims process, particularly as psychological injury claims become more complex and costly.
“Workers and employers deserve clarity, consistency and transparency. These reforms are a sensible step towards achieving that outcome.”
