The Queensland Resources Council is encouraging employees and suppliers to the coal, metal and petroleum sector to download the Australian Government’s COVIDSafe app designed to improve contact tracing of the virus.

QRC Chief Executive Ian Macfarlane said the COVIDSafe app was a new tool to help flatten the curve of this virus, which is critical to keeping Queenslanders healthy and working.

“Prior to this pandemic, the resources sector supported one in every seven Queensland jobs or more than 372,000 jobs across the State,” he said.

“If each of those Queenslanders download the app, it will further strengthen our ability to keep our vital industry working as well as help other Queenslanders get their jobs and frankly, get their lives back.”

Chief Medical Officer Professor Brendan Murphy has said:

“Finding out quickly means you can quarantine yourself or be treated much faster, protecting your family and friends from possible infection, and slowing the spread of the virus.  Without this technology, health officials have to rely on people being able to remember who they have been around, and being able to provide contact details for those people. It is important to note that only state and territory health officials will be able to use the information.”
