Senex delivers more power for Queenslanders
14 May 2020
Senex Energy has signed a new gas supply agreement with 2.55 petajoules (PJ) of natural gas flowing from the company’s Atlas operations to CleanCo the new publicly owned generator of low-emissions electricity.
Queensland Resources Council Chief Executive Ian Macfarlane said the contract was an example of how Queensland’s resources – coal, gas, sunshine and wind – are all helping to drive down the cost of electricity for Queenslanders.
“This agreement will put downward pressure on energy costs for homes and businesses at a time when the economy is entering uncharted waters as the impacts from COVID-19 unfold,” Mr Macfarlane said.
“CleanCo is an example to the rest of Australia of how Queensland’s natural gas is the ideal stablemate for renewable energy, firming up supply so that we can have reliable low-emissions energy.
“QRC congratulates Senex Energy and the Palaszczuk Government on its collaboration and the Energy Minister, Dr Anthony Lynham for making domestic-only gas tenures available for tender.
“Queensland’s resources industry is doing its part to keep the Queensland economy working and we should make full use of the State’s abundance of energy resources.”
The one-year agreement would commence on 1 January 2021 with the gas supplied via the Wallumbilla Gas Hub east of Roma.
