Statement on RSHQ review

Queensland Resources Council welcomes the State Government’s announcement of a comprehensive review into the structure and function of Resources Safety and Health Queensland (RSHQ) and the appointment of Ken Singer as the Interim Commissioner for Resources Safety and Health.  

QRC supports the review of the RSHQ and the opportunity to engage with the government in this process on behalf of industry. 

To keep our workforce safe, we need health and safety laws that are developed in consultation with industry, laws that are risk and evidence based and a regulator which is transparent and consistent in their approach in administering those laws. 

Safety is our industry’s top priority and we look forward to working with the Interim Commissioner to ensure continuous improvement. 

Ken Singer is well known and highly regarded across the industry for his commitment to improving safety in the resources sector.   

During his four decades of experience in the resources sector, Mr Singer has held several senior safety positions including Chair of QRC’s Site Senior Executive (SSE) Forum which brings companies together to improve safety practices across the industry.   

Industry, the interim Commissioner and the resources regulator should be working together to improve health and safety outcomes for all workers and contractors on our sites.
