Resources industry unites to strengthen safety
The Queensland Resources Council (QRC) is proud to support Australia’s largest industry safety event, the Queensland Mining Industry Health and Safety Conference (QMIHSC), which begins on the Gold Coast this Sunday.
The four-day conference will bring together leaders, workers, regulators, unions and health and safety professionals from across Queensland’s resources industry to share lessons, discuss emerging challenges and strengthen safety performance.
This year’s theme, Our Greatest Resource, Our People, recognises the people whose skills, experience and leadership underpin the success of Queensland’s resources sector.
The safety, health and wellbeing of the sector’s workforce remains the industry’s number one priority.
QRC Chief Executive Officer Janette Hewson said QMIHSC had an important role in driving continuous improvement and strengthening safety outcomes across the industry.
“Our people are truly our greatest resource and our industry is always looking for ways to make the sector safer,” Ms Hewson said.
“Striving for continuous safety improvement is key to protecting workers and the QMIHSC brings the industry together to share lessons, tackle challenges and strengthen safety performance.”
This year’s program will examine the key health and safety issues facing the industry, including critical risk management, leadership, psychosocial safety, engineering, technology and innovation. It will feature updates from Resources Safety and Health Queensland, industry learnings from major events and presentations from leading Australian and international speakers.
QRC’s support for QMIHSC complements its ongoing safety leadership initiatives, including a Site Senior Executive Forum, which promotes shared learnings across the sector.
The QMIHSC runs from Sunday 16 August to Wednesday 19 August at The Star Gold Coast. More information, including the conference program, is available on the conference website.
